Theory Exam
Developing an understanding and knowledge of music theory helps musicians at all levels to perform with sensitivity, awareness and control. Our Music Theory exams are open to learners of any age. You can start with any grade and skip grades if you want to.
If you're taking a Practical or Performance Grade 6, 7 or 8, you must pass Grade 5 or above in Music Theory before you book your exam. This is to make sure that you have the understanding you need to interpret and perform music at these higher grades. We also accept Grade 5 in Practical Musicianship or a Jazz Practical Grade subject.
Certificates and Diplomas
Once a student has taken the exams listed above and has scored a passing grade they are given a certificate and once they have reached past the advanced levels 8 and above they are liable for a diploma
